AAA unveils new road safety truck to help protect drivers on the side of the road

MARYLAND – Helping stranded motorists on the side of the road should not be one of America’s most dangerous jobs, but sadly, it is says AAA.

That’s why the agency is unveiling a new technology they say will help motorists and AAA personnel responding to calls; the Vehicle-Mounted Variable signage.

The signs will be mounted on the back of service vehicles, that will stage further down the road from where a motorist is, with flashing lights and large font lettering advising motorists to listen to Maryland Move-Over law for disabled vehicles.

“With the messaging board we have found that we have a 95 percent chance of motorists moving over around where we have them,” said AAA Fleet Operations Director Edward Hickey adding ” We want it to be seen from far away so people know when they are approaching that there is an issue up front.”

AAA says the move comes after a string of fatal car accidents involving construction workers in work zones throughout the state.
