$65M in capital funding coming to the first state

DELAWARE – In the first state, funding is coming down the pipeline.

It’s a part of the Biden Administrations American Rescue Plan and it’s going to help residents in Sussex County. “Bottom line we’re talking about delivering for Delaware,” said U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester.

Representative Rochester talking about the funding coming to the first state. “The state of Delaware has been approved to receive almost $66,000,000 for the state multi-purpose community facilities program,” Joseph Wender, Director of the U.S. Treasury Capital Projects Fund said.

Lawmakers say this funding is set out to help those hardest hit by the COVID-19 Pandemic providing more economic opportunities for Delawareans. “There’s a need to make sure that folks that are looking for jobs, employers that are looking for people to come to work. We have the ability to put them together and get people to jobs and on the payroll, so they can provide for themselves, U.S. Senator Tom Carper said.

A part of providing for yourself is having the necessary resources to succeed and with this funding community organizations will be able to lend a helping hand. “The Food Bank in Milford and in Newark is getting $7,000,000, and all of us know how critical the food bank is in the best of times, by the times that we’re seeing Delaware’s Food Bank both provide job skills, training, and critically needed food and family support,” U.S. Senator Chris Coons said.

Representative Blunt Rochester believes this funding means a better quality of life for Delawareans. “This announcement today impacts all of us in Delaware for modernizing and improving capacities up and down our state in all 3 counties,” Rep. Blunt Rochester said.

And Governor John Carney says this is just the beginning as more work still needs to be done. “We still need to build on that, a lot of those children were not in school for all those months, falling behind a little bit we have additional federal money coming from Washington to help our school districts, and those funds are going directly to school districts to help children make up for lost learning,” Governor John Carney said.

Altogether this funding will provide support in 3 areas focusing on youth, investments into the local community, and safer housing for a stronger economy.
