4/19 UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in this crash as 36-year-old Michelet Polynice.

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Bridgeville man Monday night.

At around 10:50 p.m., troopers say a gray 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 was traveling southbound on Old Furnace Road, approaching the intersection at Asbury Road. After driving through the intersection, the driver allegedly failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway and veered off the left side of the road into a ditch. The vehicle then hit a series of drainage pipes and a mailbox before colliding with a utility pole. The vehicle then flipped once and came to a stop upright in a nearby residential front yard.

The driver, a 36-year-old Bridgeville man, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
