Rehoboth Beach commissions traffic report ahead of summer season

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The City of Rehoboth Beach has announced a new study to help fix congestion in the Downtown area.

The Board of Commissioners has authorized a parking and transportation study to the tune of $150,000, looking at major points of failure in the traffic patterns throughout the summer.

Commissioners say this study will help them learn if they need to add more parking spaces or close certain roads and provide the most comprehensive insight into the traffic issue in the town’s history.

“The intent is really to capture busy summer season and understand things like weather and how that impacts traffic,” said Rehoboth Beach Assistant Town Commissioner Evan Miller, adding that the study is “trying to address parking demand looking to find spaces, for emergency vehicle access, autonomous vehicles, electric vehicle charging stations really are some of those deliverables we are looking for from this summer.”

The study is set to run for the duration of the summer, and the town says they will have those recommendations for next summer ready- when they head into their budgeting process in January.
