Pocomoke City Mayor speaks to his priorities, historic win as first Black mayor
POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – History has been made in Pocomoke City as Todd Nock was sworn in on Tuesday as the first Black mayor in the town’s 145 years.
“It was a great exciting day one I had been waiting for and it was great to see all the residents that came out,” Nock said, adding, “While it is historic as I am the first black mayor it is not something we are touting because there will be many that come after me.”
He tells 47ABC there is a lot of work to do in the town and it “can’t be about the white community or the black community it has to be about everybody we are better together.”
He says a focus for him is reaching what he calls the city’s “hidden” immigrant communities.
“Our Haitian, our Hispanic brothers and sisters, they only come out when they absolutely need to but we need to engage everyone and be visible and present in those areas,” Nock said.
He tells 47 ABC he is also looking to help to upgrade the town’s infrastructure and spur new investment in the area.
