Maryland Planned Parenthood applauds Washington Judge decision securing Mifepristone access
MARYLAND – Attorneys General in both Maryland and Delaware are praising a ruling from a Washington Federal judge solidifying mifepristone protections in 17 states involved in a lawsuit over a potential ban on the drug.
The judge ruling mifepristone will remain legal and accessible in the 17 states suing to keep it that way, regardless of the outcome of a separate ruling by a Texas federal judge.
Maryland Planned Parenthood says the ruling preserves the continuity of care for patients and ends the weeks of confusion surrounding access.
“It has been a confusing last couple of days spiraling through the proceedings with the two conflicting lawsuits,” said Maryland Planned Parenthood CEO and President Karen Nelson, adding that “Now it’s business as usual in Maryland our staff are seeing patients and for those coming for abortion care and those looking for telehealth for medication abortion we are using mifepristone.”
Nelson tells 47ABC she is grateful for the work of the AG’s office in protecting healthcare access for patients.
She tells us that in Maryland, Mifepristone can be prescribed via telehealth appointments and shipped throughout the state and says patients should visit the group’s website for more information.
