DSU’s Brian Perry heading to Special Olympics in Germany to compete in men’s swimming
DOVER, Del – A beloved member of the Delaware State University community will soon be making his debut on the world stage and a Special Olympian for Team USA.
Brian Perry is heading to Berlin as part of Team USA and is crediting his parents, his coaches, and the community at DSU for his success.
“It was so awesome when we got the phone call from Special Olympics Delaware that they had chosen him to swim and go to Berlin we were in tears it was so moving,” said Brian’s mother Christine.
“He’s really great charismatic and a great person and I’m happy to see him going off to Special Olympics it’s an awesome thing to have some del state representatives,” said DSU student Devynne Johnson.
In an event at DSU Thursday Brian’s Coach Marcus Johnson rolled out the red carpet for his star athlete- singing his praises and celebrating the work they’ve put in to be part of Team USA.
“His times are reaching in the top times of 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke so he had that chance to really bring home a medal have a good race and instill things fought to him he should be able to do it,” said DSU Swimming coach Marcus Johnson.
Brian tells 47ABC he’ll be keeping his coach’s cues in mind as he hits the water.
“Stay in shape stay healthy eat right, Swim fast, and beat the timer,” Brian said.
Brian says he’s grateful to his parents for all their support and coach Johnson for bringing him to the Olympic level, his coach says those other athletes aren’t ready for what he’s set to bring to the Berlin Games held in Germany this June.
“They better watch out Brian is coming through, Brian is coming through,” Johnsons said.
