Cambridge PD taking on their initiatives to lower crime rates

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge Police Department is taking on their own initiatives to try to lower crime rates.

One includes the Shot Spotter device used throughout the city. When the system picks up on the sound of a gunshot it alerts all police personnel in the area. With this technology, police say they’re able to respond faster with more accurate data. Another measure is the city’s youth curfew. However, the incidents we just heard about all happened before the curfew time.

Which means police also have another task on their hands. “Now if you solve the shootings and the robberies happened earlier in the evening before the curfew would have even went into place so now we’re dealing with how we can tackle that,” says Cambridge Police Chief Justin Todd.

Chief Todd says it will take the whole community’s effort to reduce violence in Cambridge. The youth curfew is set to end on June 30th.
