Salisbury crash involving MSP trooper under investigation
SALISBURY, Md. – A crash involving a Maryland State Police trooper that injured three people Monday morning is under investigation.
Police say the trooper was on duty, and operating a marked Maryland State Police vehicle.
The crash happened at around 7:30 a.m. Traffic was stopped on the Route 13 southbound bypass as a tow truck was working to remove a disabled vehicle from the median when police say a trooper, who has not yet been identified, hit the back of a stopped Honda pickup truck.
It is unknown at this time why the trooper did not stop, say police. The crash caused a chain reaction, say police, pushing the pickup truck into a Honda Accord in front of it. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as 73-year-old Daniel Clark of Norfolk, Virginia. He was airlifted to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he is currently receiving treatment.
34-year-old Mark Adkins of Salisbury, Maryland was identified as the driver of the Accord. He was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital, and treated for injuries from the crash.
The trooper was also taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital. His condition was not made public.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is conducting an active investigation.
