UPDATE: Police identify victim in Magnolia crash

The crash remains under investigation.

MAGNOLIA, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened in Magnolia Friday night.
Police say around 7:25 p.m., a Chrysler minivan was traveling northbound on Bay Road, south of Trap Shooters Road. At the same time, a Mercedes GKL was traveling southbound in the same area. The Chrysler crossed the median, say police, and hit the Mercedes head-on. Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the crash.
A good Samaritan was able to rescue the driver and passenger of the Mercedes. The driver, a 58-year-old Lewes man, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. The passenger, a 59-year-old Lewes woman, was also taken to the hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. Two dogs were inside the Mercedes at the time of the crash, and one died.
The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead on scene. Identification of the victim is pending notification to next of kin. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Delaware State Police at 302-698-8451.
