Cambridge Waterfront development demolition complete

CAMBRIDGE, Md – The Cambridge waterfront is getting a lot nicer as the demolition phase is now complete.

The project is 30 years in the making, starting back in the 1990s. The goal is to activate the community and bring in visitors. Officials say the demolition process took an entire year to remove the Dorchester General Hospital and parking lots.

We spoke with project officials who say funding was delayed but now they are ready for the next steps. “Then, 2023 is our planning and funding year. We have received funds from the state in order to plan, we have received funds from the federal government to build the promenade out there, and we have put out a request for expressions of interest for the investor developer community,” says Matt Leonard, the Executive Director of the Cambridge Waterfront Development Incorporation.

Leonard says the group is now in the works to find the right investor, to make sure the 4-acre park has waterfront access, public events, and highlights the heritage of Cambridge.
