SWAC offering several scholarship opportunities for students interested in the Arts

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – If you’re a Wicomico County student interested in the arts, several scholarship opportunities are now available to you thanks to The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council.

Students 16 and under can apply for the Douglas Smith scholarship. The fund geared towards students interested in pursuing the arts in what area they’ve like, supporting things like taking piano lessons and more.

High school students have two options, including the Herbert D. Brent and Paul S. Hyde scholarships. Those awards are $1,000 or more that will go towards furthering their higher education.

SWAC says to make this possible, they need support from the community and are seeking more members. “The dues are very nominal and this money helps. That’s where we get the money from. If we had more money coming in, we can help every student that comes to us,” SWAC Executive Director Therese Hamilton said.

“Nothing is better than the arts, it’s like a healing bomb that ales you, and there’s certainly a lot of ales in this world of ours. Let’s keep singing, dancing, writing, creating, and painting.”

Those applications are now open and the deadline to apply is March 15th.
