Sunday morning crash kills 90-year-old man in Felton

FELTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that killed a 90-year-old man Sunday morning.

Police say around 10:29 a.m., a Ford Focus was approaching the intersection with Midstate Road on South Dupont Highway. At the same time, an Acura RLX was stopped at the right light, waiting to turn left onto South Dupont Highway, say police. The red light turned to a green arrow for the Acura, police say, the light went red for the Ford. The Acura began to turn left, but the driver of the Ford continued through the intersection, say police, causing them to collide.

The 25-year-old Smyrna man driving the Ford was not hurt, say police. The 66-year-old Felton woman driving the Acura was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 90-year-old Farmington, Del. man in the front passenger seat of the Acura was also taken to an area hospital, but later died, say police. His identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The roadway was closed for about an hour while investigators cleared the scene. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sergeant J. Wheatley at (302) 698-8518.
