Food Bank of Delaware receives $200,000 Donation to fund food storage and community center

MILFORD- The town of Milford’s long-awaited food storage and community center operated by the Delaware Food Bank is one step closer to completion, with the help of a 200,000 dollar donation from Bank of America.
“When we open the doors to the 60k square foot location we are going to offer more than just food,” said Delaware Food Bank CEO Cathy Kanefsky.
Helped along with a 200,000 dollar donation from Bank of America.
Food Bank of Delaware President Cathy Kanefsky says Kent and Sussex counties are now requiring just as much food as new castle county, and the New building makes it more efficient to meet the needs of lower Delaware.
“We will have the capability to store here that’s a big thing we don’t have the ability to do right now we have a huge warehouse in Newark and we bring that food down,” she said.
Kanefsky says the center will also address other needs for folks who are food insecure.
“We also have workforce training culinary training which we have but not to the extent that we can have with a larger facility we’ll be adding kitchen school and parallel program for those with intellectual disabilities,” Kanfesky said.
Delaware State Senator for the 18th District Dave Wilson was at the dedication and says he will support bills to make the center completely debt free when it opens.
He hopes the center will help save his constituents from having to make hard choices.
“Things are so tough for people for food they have to make choices of eating or paying rent or car payments this is a time where with all our partners to see this come together in the city of Milford,” Wilson said.
The Center is slated to be completed by the end of 2023.
