BLADES, Del. – A Maryland man is behind bars after stealing a vehicle and crashing it in Blades.
Delaware State Police say around 8:34 a.m. Sunday, a trooper was dispatched to Seaford Road, near Morgan Branch Drive, for a single vehicle crash. Investigators say a Chevrolet Equinox went off the road and hit a guardrail. 26-year-old Damiean Turner of East New Market, Md. was identified as the driver, and police say he showed signs of impairment at the time of the crash.
Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen by Salisbury Police Department. A search of the vehicle lead to the discovery of a loaded firearm and ammunition, say police. Turner was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.
Turner is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and receiving stolen property greater than $1,500. He is also charged with possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence, and other traffic-related offenses. Turner was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #3 and taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on $33,400 cash bond.
