UPDATE: Blaze destroys home in Milford, State Fire Marshal investigating

2/6 UPDATE: State fire marshals say the fire originated inside a ground floor attached garage and was caused by an electrical malfunction in the electric service panel. As a result, the fire has been deemed accidental.

MILFORD, Del. – A house fire that broke out in Milford on Sunday is being investigated by the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Investigators say the blaze was reported just after 8:00 p.m. in the 7100 block of Elgin Drive. Carlisle Fire Company responded along with neighboring mutual aid fire companies.

Deputy marshals were called to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. A three-story, occupied townhouse was heavily damaged. Investigators estimate over $100,000 in damages, including exposure damage to five other homes. Several residents have been displaced.

The American Red Cross is assisting those in need. The fire remains under investigation.
