Salisbury Pallet Home village hits further delay, now hope for Feb. completion
SALISBURY, Md- A series of supply chain delays have pushed the completion date for the 24 Pallet Homes for the homeless in Salisbury into February.
Salisbury Homelessness Service Coordinator Brett Sanders tells 47 ABC that the project is still awaiting electrical panels, plumbing components, and the generator from Delmarva Power that would bring AC, Heat, and electric services to the homes.
He says the application process is also being adjusted for those looking to reside in the homes, recognizing that material conditions may have shifted for applicants since the original estimated completion of October 2022.
“When we planned to open back in October and then January the status of some of those folks’ housing has changed so our list had shifted so we are going to be flexible as we know some folks have new plans some folks have had changes in health and mobility, have even moved from the area the applicant is considering those with the greatest needs first for these homes,” Sanders said.
He says he understands the frustration that the delays have caused, but he says he is thankful for how much the community has helped, from volunteers painting the houses to donations of blankets, pillows, and more.
