Salisbury City Council prepares for work session

SALISBURY, Md. – With the new year means new ordinances, and the Salisbury City Council is preparing to tackle a host of issues this year.

On Tuesday the Salisbury City Council will address two items on the agenda. “One is the request for annexation of a piece of property on Sharen Drive and the second is a budget amendment to cover a shortfall in the gasoline budget for field operations,” says Jack Heath, the Salisbury Council President.

Salisbury City Council president jack heath explains the upcoming property changes. “Is for anticipation for a self-storage facility and we will discuss the positives and negatives. We’ll have a presentation from Bill Holland who presents the annexation,” says President Heath.

For gasoline, the president says this comes at the perfect time as inflation has prices at an all-time high. “Requires us to go in and do an ordinance to transfer funds from surplus to cover the expenses in the expense budget now as you know we’ve all experienced this, the gasoline prices have gone through the roof, and that’s the cause of the shortfall,” says the President.

The president encourages the community to come to these meetings because it allows you to make your voice heard. “It gives them an opportunity and especially with zoom now, it gives the citizens an opportunity to give their opinion, and at the end of each work session and at the end of each council meeting I ask if anyone wants to request making a public comment and they’re permitted to do so,” the President adds.

President Jack Heath also says in April they will begin working on the new budget, calling it a detailed and interesting process. The first work session will happen tomorrow.

The Salisbury City Council alternates work sessions and council meetings. For more information about the Salisbury City Council website.
