BayHealth expands offerings with new primary care facility in Harrington

HARRINGTON, Del. – “We’re really trying to offer things that Sussex hasn’t necessarily had before and make it accessible and easy to reach,” Dr. Siegleman said.

Wednesday marked the beginning of a new chapter for BayHealth, as the healthcare system held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new primary care facility in Harrington. “If someone has diabetes, heart failure, a bad leg, or even back pain, usually the first person they’re going to see is their primary care physician,” BayHealth Senior VP/Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gary Siegleman said.

“The town of Harrington is growing and we’re the only primary facility between Dover, Milford, and Bridgeville. That’s a big community that needs primary care services,” Nurse Practitioner Michelle Devern said.

The new practice will offer primary care, lab, and X-ray services.

Devern tells 47ABC the bigger space can accommodate more patients who call Sussex County home. “Right now, we only have 6 or 7 rooms for physicians and me. Our need has expanded. We don’t have enough room to see those patients,” Devern said.

Long-time physician and community pillar Dr. Vincent Lobo was also honored during the ceremony for his many years of work within the healthcare system and for opening the first practice in Harrington.

He tells us the new facility is a dream come true. “I would love to work here for one more year. It’s gorgeous. Bayhealth has really out done themselves,” Dr. Lobo said.

“The people are like family to me now. I’ve known them for so many years. I’ve actually been in practice for 55 years and it’s like they’re family.”

Those we spoke with say the COVID-19 pandemic hindered many from seeking the preventative and essential care they need, and the hope is that the new facility serves as a beacon of hope for a healthier community. “I’m really honored that I get to be a part of that and provide care to these patients and be part of that close knit family,” Devern said.

The Delaware House of Representatives also presented Dr. Lobo with a certificate of achievement for his years of service at Wednesday’s ceremony.

The first day of operations for the primary care office will be Tuesday, January 24th.

The new facility is located at 16681 S. DuPont Highway.
