UPDATE: Two men found dead in Cambridge, less than 24 hours a part

UPDATE: A suspect was arrested Friday night.

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Investigators are trying to solve two homicides that happened in the last 24 hours. Two men were gunned down just three hours apart.

Bloodstains are still visible on the streets from last night’s murders, while investigators know where it happened they can’t say if they are looking for a suspect or suspects in the case.

“I don’t know that’s what everybody saying, what is going on in Cambridge? I don’t know,” says Gloria Woolford, a Cambridge resident.

Two men were fatally shot in the streets of Cambridge. 24-year-old Taijay Daniels and 69-year-old Lory Fields were both killed Thursday night.

First- just after 7 PM police found Daniels in the 400 block of Pleasant Street. “When officers arrived they found the victim face down with gunshot wounds and they were pronounced dead at the scene,” says Chief Justin Todd with the Cambridge Police Department.

Then just three hours later and less than a mile away, officers discovered Fields in the 700 block of the High Street. “Officers received another call for a gunshot victim officers responded to that area and found a male victim Lory Fields (69) laying in the grass with a gunshot wound to the head and he was pronounced deceased at the scene,” says Chief Todd.

Two men were shot and killed the same night, but investigators say they don’t believe the two incidents are connected, however they did say: “Investigators know that the 2 victims knew each other yet they are not sure what the relationship may have been,” says Elena Russo, spokesperson for Maryland State Police.

Maryland State Police have taken the lead on the case. “We’re really relying on any citizens that may have seen anything or may have any video surveillance footage that they haven’t been able to provide at this point to please contact police at the Easton barrack,” says Russo.

Meanwhile, Cambridge Police tell us these kinds of crimes are not typical. “Certainly aggressive crimes are up in the city. the gun crimes have been up in the city but certainly when you have someone on the streets that are doing these types of crimes it’s a concern,” says Chief Todd.

I spoke with community residents that say this is a small part of a much larger problem in Cambridge. In fact, many adults tell me they fear for the next generation, that kids in the area won’t have anything to come home to.

Now they’re calling for change. “I’d like to see more positives for these kids these kids need more positive places to go positive things to do, it really makes a difference,” says Woolford.

Cambridge’s Police Chief says he hopes these incidents will not slow the community down and they are working on getting more resources for the community. Authorities say right now they don’t know if these crimes were targeted or random acts of violence. If you have any information or video to share, call 410-228-3333.
