NYE In Princess Anne: Rain Plan in place for Muskrat Drop

PRINCESS ANNE, MD- A New Years’ tradition is making some adjustments in case the celebration gets hit with a heavy dose of rain.

The muskrat drop in Princess Anne is set to feature multiple participating restaurants, food items, and outdoor tents in the event that rain rolls through while the town is counting down the seconds until the new year.

The event will feature smith island cakes, oyster shucking, and dancing inside the hall of the local fire department, as well as Squeeky’s Cafe and the Washington Inn.

Downtown Princess Anne Coordinator Carrie Samis say, that the muskrat is an aquatic mammal, so he will be fine if there are some showers, but just in case an indoor muskrat drop plan is also in the works.

“We are partnering with our downtown businesses and the local fire department as well to have access to indoor spaces for partygoers in the event of rain there will be tented activities, and indoor areas for those in attendance,” Samis said.

Samis tells 47ABC that the New Years’ Eve Pary will also be the last day of operation for the Washington Inn with its current leadership, as the restaurant will close the following day.

Samis say she hopes new owners can be found to keep the historic landmark in downtown.
