Five mariners suffer carbon monoxide poisoning in Indian River Bay

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – The United States Coast Guard rescued five mariners on Christmas Day in the Indian River Bay.

Sector Delaware Bay Command Center watch standers were notified that five mariners were stuck aboard the Reggeborg, who had experienced carbon monoxide poisoning.

A Station Indian River 47-foot lifeboat crew transferred two of the mariners. Lewes Fire Department boat crew transferred three of the mariners to Bethany Fire Department.

Delaware Fish and Wildlife, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and Delaware State Police assisted in the response.
