AAA warning drivers to check their cars before hitting the road this winter

Safe Driving In Winter

SALISBURY, Md- With Wednesday marking the first day of winter, and colder weather inbound later this week, the Mid-Atlantic Triple A is warning drivers to make sure their cars are road ready before they do their driving trips this holiday season.

Spokeswoman Ragina Ali tells 47ABC says batteries need to be checked yearly, and replaced every 5 years as dead or dying batteries are the number one reason leaving drivers stranded in the cold this time of year, as well as making sure tires are up for the task of winter driving.

“They want to check their tires to make sure they have depth and tread and pressure is good as the temperature gets colder the tire pressure goes down as well so make sure you have good tire pressure,” Ali said.

according to Ali, last winter 147,000 stranded Marylanders had to be towed out.
She recommends drivers keep gloves, blankets, and a survival kit in their vehicles in case of emergencies.
