Coleman accounts for five touchdowns, Decatur to the quarterfinals
BERLIN, Md. – Decatur moves on to the state quarterfinals with a 43-27 victory over North Caroline Saturday afternoon.
The dual threat quarterback, Brycen Coleman, put Decatur on the board first with a 38-yard touchdown run up the middle on the Seahawks first drive.
Markeil Chestnut answered for North Caroline, breaking a tackle on a reception over the middle and going 45 yards for a touchdown on fourth down. The extra point was blocked, Decatur held a 7-6 advantage after one quarter.
A pass from Coleman to Gavin Solito down the home sideline set up a 1-yard plunge by Luke Mergott with 5:14 left in the half. Decatur added another touchdown following a North Caroline turnover on a punt return.
Coleman tossed three touchdowns, one to Mergott and two to Trybe Wise. The junior signal caller also ran two in.
The Seahawks advance to the state quarterfinals, and will play Potomac in Oxon Hill on Friday.
