Cathedral of Love gives out hot meals to those in need on Thanksgiving
SALISBURY, Md- Anyone walking down church street on thanksgiving day in Salisbury, could count on a hot, free thanksgiving dinner thanks to volunteers at the Cathedral of Love.
The Church holds the giveaway every year, but Pastor Craig Wilson tells 47ABC this year saw an increased need in the community, and in turn, increased food from them to match.
“In these times where everything is going up and families are in need we wanted to be a blessing to our community and thank god is letting us do this once again,” Wilson said.
He tells us this year’s event saw them doubling their output to over 200 meals served, plus additional desserts.
“We have had 50 people come by as of 11 am and we are here till one o’clock and we know there will be plenty more we want to run out of everything that we have here and hopefully we will,” he said.
He says it wouldn’t be possible without donations from the community, and the work of the volunteers who showed up in full force Thursday, serving the meals, packing the trays, and handing them to those in need.
“We were able to have donations and our church stepped up people and the volunteers had the heart to want to help others so we are just so truly grateful to do it again and reach those in the community coming by,” Wilson said.
Volunteers like Carlos Showl helped to bag up the meals after they get assembled, and stack the to-go containers as folks rolled in throughout the morning to pick up the food.
“It just feels good serving the community we are called out to love on people so I love helping the community helping people,” Showl said.
Pastor Wilsons tells 47ABC the event also serves to honor the memory of their former reverend Annette P Wilson and her spirit of giving back.
Even though she is not here today, she passed in 2020, we are still carrying forth the vision and the legacy she left us and I know we are making her proud today,” Wilson said.
