Wicomico County candidate forum to tackle environmental issues on Tuesday

SALISBURY, Md. – Tuesday night is Wicomico County voters’ chance to hear from County Council and County Executive candidates on environmental issues.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), PACE at Salisbury University, and the Wicomico Environmental Trust are hosting a forum. Candidates will face questions about issues ranging from bay restoration to land use and growth management to climate change.

“All these issues are things that Wicomico County citizens have experience with, are concerned about. Wicomico County is a pretty low-lying area with a significant amount of shoreline and tributaries that drain into the Chesapeake Bay,” said Alan Girard, Eastern Shore Director for CBF. “When we’re talking about environmental health, whether it’s related to issues from storm water management or agricultural run off or waste water treatment, all of these issues affect Wicomico County citizens directly.”

Girard says he hopes voters walk away with some valuable insights before they hit the polls in November. “Our organizations do educate. So, really the purpose of the forum is to help educate anyone who attends where the candidates stand on environmental issue that affect them and their livelihoods in Wicomico County,” he said.

The forum is free and open to all. It starts at 6 p.m. in Assembly Hall on the 4th floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons on Salisbury University’s campus. 47 ABC’s Hannah Cechini will be moderating.
