Weather Tidbits: Frost Formation

This Weather Tidbits deals with how frost develops. The air temperature must first be around 36° which is measured a few feet above the ground; while cold air sinks leaving the ground temperature cooler at 32°. Water molecules in the air touch a frozen surface and the freeze forms ice crystals or frost. Clear skies, light winds, moisture in the air, temperatures in the 30s but also moisture on the ground are needed for frost to develop. When frost occurs, don’t forget the 4 things to protect which are plants, pipes, pets and people.
