Nominations open for 2022 Rotary Club of Wicomico County Hero Award

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Nominations are now open for the 2022 Rotary Club of Wicomico County Hero Award. The award honors those in our community who have done a heroic act within the past year.

The most recent recipient was Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Deputy First Class Lee Hagel. “He preformed an outstanding heroic act. So, he certainly is an individual that we continue to recognize, as far as service to our community,” said Dove Pointe Executive Director Don Hackett.

Now, the Rotary Club is on the search for their next recipient. The organization will be collecting nominations until December 31st. In February 2023, they’ll announce the winner. The winner will be able to donate the $1,000 prize to a 501c non-profit organization of their choice.

Hackett says it’s a great way for the winner to continue paying it forward. “That would be an opportunity for the community to know who this selected individual was, and also for that person to recognize whatever organization they felt they’d like to also recognize,” he said.
