Low digit-tag lottery open for registration in the first state

DELAWARE – Plate-mas is here for those of you in the first state.

If you’re unfamiliar it’s when residents in Delaware enter a drawing to get a license plate with a low-digit number. According to officials, it’s a hot ticket item. “Delawareans are very passionate about their low digit tags and as the population of the state grows so does the popularity of the low digit tags and there is limited availability,” says Kathryn Beasley, the Chief of Communications of the Division of Motor Vehicles.

The annual events registration kicks off today for the 12 days of Plate-mas. For this year some new changes are in store:  not only will it be numbers only but different tag types will be available this year.

The Department of Motor Vehicles also changed how you can get in on the lottery to give more people a chance to win. “So by adding the registration component and having that continue through November 13th this year, it’s going to allow people who have to work and can’t register online at a specific time and a specific day, it’s going to give them an opportunity to participate as well, so we’re really excited about that,” says Beasley.

Beasley says it’s the perfect timing so get excited and get registered. “Again it’s just about giving more people, more opportunity, and it’s just about making it fun, especially around this time of year and hopefully continuing that tradition,” says Beasley.

To register just visit the DMV’s website.
