Library lockers in Wicomico County open for use

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – If you notice blue lockers around Wicomico County there’s a good reason for them.

Wicomico County Public Libraries has set up lockers in four locations for you to access resources closer to home. Through the lockers, users can return and retrieve library materials.

Library officials say it’s simple to use. “The library lockers work by placing holds just like you normally would, go into the catalog, find books or other materials that you want to use and place a hold on those and tell the computer that you want those sent to the lockers that have now been placed around the county,” says Seth Hershberger, Executive Director of Wicomico County Libraries.

They tell us this will be a good opportunity to make materials more accessible for everyone. “This is going to provide more access to physical library resources, both for people in high-traffic areas, where they visit a lot already, and also communities that are a little more off the path like Sharptown, where its harder for folks to come into the library, where they can simply place holds and pick up their materials in town,” says Hershberger.

Library executive director Seth Hershberger adds they are committed to serving the full county, making sure everyone has access. “This is a part of our commitment to try to serve the full county not just the residents of Salisbury we’re really trying to reach out and provide access everywhere in the county and to make it easier for folks here in Salisbury too to pick up their materials.”
