“It’s going to be highly used:” Ground broken on $1.8M Harmon Field project

SALISBURY, Md.- It was a momentous day for local pickle ball lovers, as a groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday afternoon for the Harmon Field revitalization project.

Last year, Wicomico Parks and Recs presented the community with a plan for upgrades.

Upgrades include a new playground, second basketball court, and 12 pickle ball courts.

The project now has a $1.8 million price tag with additional funding coming from the state and a $300,000 contribution from the YMCA.

Director Steve Miller tells us this will make Harmon Field the hub for recreation. “It’s actually pretty special because it comes full circle. Once upon a time this was the ‘It Spot’ for softball back in the 60s, 70s, 80s. This was the place people came.”

“It’s pretty neat to see this now become the ‘It Spot’. It’s going to be a different activity but there are going to be people here. It’s going to be highly used from our folks, people at the Y, and anybody in the public.”

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2023.
