Harmon field revitalization project making progress, officials say need still present in community

SALISBURY, Md.- Wicomico County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department says they’re one step closer to breaking ground on the highly anticipated Harmon Field revitalization project.

Last year, the department presented a $1 million dollar proposal for upgrades to the community staple.

The project includes a new playground, second basketball court, and 12 pickleball courts.

We’re told storm water was the major cause of delay but a contract has been awarded to green light construction.

Executive Director Steve Miller says there’s still a need and want for the project in the community and hopes the progress being made will reignite the excitement for it. “Sometimes the public doesn’t see what’s happening but behind the scenes things are moving. That’s been the case here in the last six months is that things have been moving quietly,” Miller said.

“I think the enthusiasm is growing quite frankly and I think its going to be one of our most popular parks once this is done next spring.”

Miller says they have received two additional state grants for approximately $800,000, as the price tag on the project has increased due to the rising cost of materials.

The county council will vote to accept those funds at their meeting Tuesday evening.

The project is expect to be completed Spring 2023.
