UPDATE: Georgetown man charged with murder, following incident at Royal Farms

GEORGETOWN, Del. – On September 19, 2022, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit charged Kevin Shorter of Georgetown, with Murder in the First Degree after Paul McCarter, of Georgetown, died from his injuries on September 13, 2022.

Kevin was arraigned on the upgraded charge at Justice of the Peace Court #2. Shorter, who was held on a $1,060,000 cash bond, remains in the custody of the Department of Correction at Sussex Correctional Institute.

Delaware State Police say the victim of an attack at the Royal Farms in Georgetown last week has died from his injuries.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on September 7th. Investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by an unknown man with a baseball bat inside the convenience store, located at 20579 DuPont Boulevard.

The victim has since been identified as 38-year-old Paul McCarter of Georgetown. Police say he died from his injuries on Tuesday.

24-year-old Kevin Shorter was initially arrested for attempted murder and held at SCI on Saturday, however, upgraded charges are pending at this time.
