Somerset Co. officials have mitigation plans in place ahead of Hurricane Ian effects

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – Somerset County is also keeping an eye out on the impacts of Hurricane Ian.

47 ABC spoke with Emergency Services to learn how this is impacting them. They tell us any time there is a storm they are concerned. However, this time around there’s good news they are predicted to be in a minor category.
The City of Crisfield is known to flood however there are measures in place to protect residents.

“There are mitigation projects in place, there are flood gates down in Crisfield and we do home elevation projects through FEMA grant funding that we receive but for this storm specifically, we don’t have any kind of sandbags physically in place 2.02 at this time,” says Jerred Johnson the Public Information Officer for Somerset County Emergency Services.

Johnson says it’s important that community members share with officials what they can do to help keep you better prepared. He also recommends signing up for somerset county alerts and updates on their website.
