Harrison House celebrating 50 years of care for residents and employees

SNOW HILL, Md. – The Harrison House is celebrating a major milestone.

50 years of being open despite pandemic challenges. Long-time employees say there’s a deeper meaning behind the years of being open.

“It’s been good, I’ve had a good 44 years,” says Shelia Morris, an Administrative Assistant at the Harrison House.

Administrative Assistant Shelia Morris has worked at the Harrison House of Snow Hill for almost 44 years. It’s that hard work and care that’s contributed to the 50th anniversary of the establishment. “We can’t do this, we can’t accomplish the care of our residents without our employees 2.47.08 very capable and very caring,” says Ellen Saunders, Board of Directors Chairman for the Harrison House.

After all of these years, Shelia reflects on how far the facility has come to reach this milestone. “When I first started working here I started working with the owner’s Doctor and Mrs. Harrison. Mrs. Harrison we worked very closely together…there was nothing in this facility,” says Morris.

But it wasn’t just growth for the company – but personal development for Shelia too. “I have done many things in between being a GNA when I first started working here I was a CNA, you did not have to have a license so I got licensed so I’m a GNA as well. Then I went to GNA to restorative and then after I started doing restorative and payroll,” says Morris.

Despite COVID-19 slowdowns in the industry both Morris and Saunders believe there are more milestones to come for the Harrison House. “Building on the legacy of serving others and doing your very best for your residents and their families,” says Saunders. “I believe that even after I’m gone, they will continue because like I said we have good management here, have good standards that has never changed,” adds Morris.

Saunders says she has seen the brand come a long way and she’s eager to see things get back to normal after the pandemic winds down.
