FDA to approve Bivalent Vaccines, offering protection against most recent COVID-19 variants
MARYLAND – The FDA is expected to authorize the next round of vaccines this weekend, offering updated protections against the latest variants of COVID-19. They’re known as Bivalent boosters and contain new defenses against the two most common variants of COVID-19 spreading in the U.S.
Health officials at Atlantic General Hospital say these vaccines are more tailored to what’s spreading and can help to close up the gaps in the old vaccines that the virus was able to evade. They say unlike previous boosters this one is not just for the immune-compromised, but rather for the general population as a 4th dose.
“This vaccine is meant for people who have already completed their primary series of vaccinations, who are 18 years or older with Moderna or 12 years or older with Pfizer, who have completed their full series and are at least two months since their most recent booster,” said AGH Pharmacist Jeff Kukel.
Atlantic General says they will be holding vaccine clinics, and holding public health events to promote the vaccine, as they say, they are once again seeing a rise in COVID-related hospitalizations.
