Wiersberg Warriors hold bbq chicken fundraiser in Fruitland

Fruitland, Md- The Wiersberg Warriors foundation held a charity chicken bake fundraiser, at the Red Man’s roost in Fruitland looking to raise money for the foundation that provides gifts and comfort to young adults battling cancer.
The foundation is named after 22-year-old officer Spencer Wiersberg who passed away after battling cancer.

Organizers say the goal was to raise 5,000 dollars to help cover education expenses for young adults as well as gifts to help make them feel valued by their community.

Spencer’s Mother and foundation Director Gerrie Wiersberg tells us one of Spencer’s joys during his battle was to get a gift and know there were people out there fighting with him.

She tells us that the foundation’s motto is no one fights alone, and hopes her foundation will help to bring that feeling of togetherness to others.

“Just receiving a gift you know something to show someone was thinking about them that day- so we want to give young adults a gift whatever their heart desires something to make them happy,” she said.

The organization is also looking to expand its service to hospital workers who treat cancer patients.
Wiersberg says they want to let those hospital workers know how important they are to the community
