Tri-County Kickoff to highlight mental health & addiction issues during Saturday Shorebirds game
SALISBURY, Md. – The Tri-County Goes Purple Kick-off is just a few days away and aims to raise awareness and help those fighting addiction.
The event kicks off this Saturday at the Shorebirds stadium before the game at 6:30 p.m..
The event will feature mental health service resources, goodie bags, and even a fireworks show with the goal of breaking the stigma and changing the narrative around addiction.
Event organizers say for too long addiction was seen as a personal failing, which led to relapse and lack of help.
With events like these and Wicomico Goes Purple, they hope they can make that attitude a thing of the past.
“We have the opportunity to get messaging to a lot of different folks of all ages to kick off the project,” said Event Co-chair Christina Bowie-Simpson, adding “we raise awareness of substance abuse and addiction and provide resources to those struggling with substance use.”
Bowie-Simpson tells us tickets are still available on the Shorebirds website and that they are thankful to have them as a partner.
