DFC Glenn Hilliard Memorial Co-ed Softball Tournament in Delmar raises money for family during day of fun
DELMAR, Md- A charity softball tournament held from Friday the 26th to Sunday the 28th at the Mason Dixon Sports Complex in Delmar helped to raise money for the family of fallen Wicomico County Sheriff’s Corporal Glenn Hilliard.
Teams from across Maryland competed against each other at the charity tournament with a 250-dollar buy-in per team.
Organizers say the event has raised at least 13 thousand dollars for the Hilliard family, just from the buy-in, with more money donated on-site with raffles and games.
Members of the family visited the tournament earlier in the weekend on Saturday, and organizers say the turnout was spectacular throughout, far exceeding their expectations.
“It feels great, I had a bracket made for 12 teams and we had 20 show up they just kept rolling in and we also have teams from Cecil county and Baltimore and we didn’t expect it to be this big but I’m happy that it is, just seeing the community together makes my heart happy,’ said Organizer Will Spence.
He tells us he hopes it doesn’t take another tragedy for them to have another event and hopes to host more tournaments in the future for a variety of causes.
