First Look: New Beach Patrol Station Planned for Rehoboth Beach
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Town of Rehoboth is releasing the latest upgrade plans for the beach patrol station on the boardwalk.
The new facility is set to feature ATV launching pads and beach-facing safety equipment as well as expanded public bathrooms and ADA-compliant ramps on the first floor, with a state-of-the-art command center, locker room, and training facility on the top floor.
Public works Director Kevin Williams tells us the 4.8 million dollar facility is centrally located to help see and respond to any incidents on the beach while offering more space and convenience than the old facility.
“They are crammed in now with the number of lifeguards we have now into a pretty small facility so we can now expand that space and beyond the first floor of that building,” he said.
He says the building will also be shifted further back on the boardwalk to be FEMA compliant, putting it out of harm’s way of storm surges or flooding.
Construction is expected to begin on the first floor in fall 2023 and on the 2nd floor by fall 2024.
