Local car club hosts cruise-in event honoring Cpl. Glenn Hilliard

SALISBURY, Md. – The Wheels That Heal Car Club’s monthly cruise-in/car show event brings out vehicles of all makes and models to support local charities.

President Steve Mixter tells us Saturday afternoon’s event was a special one. “We decided to do one for the Glenn Hilliard Memorial Fund. As you can see it kind of blossomed, mushroomed, and then kind of exploded in to what we have here today,” Mixter said.

“Today’s event, I’m guessing 400 plus cars are coming,” Wheels That Heal member Rob Coffin said.

Although the cars were the eye-grabbers of the day, community members also got the chance to shop with local vendors and participate in a silent auction. All proceeds will go to support the Hilliard family.

“The community never ceases to amaze me,” Coffin said.

“We need to do this. We need to do this,” Mixter said.

Among all the whips was Cylon Davis’ 2018 Chrysler 300 that he nicknamed ‘Pennywise’ inspired by the movie IT.

He says his ride is no match for the true meaning of the day. “I love that because he was a Black man and doing his job and everything like that. He didn’t judge anybody either, he was just doing his job. The fact that he lost his life from that really hurt.  It really hurt,” Davis said.

“I love to see every car club out here. I always wanted to see something like this come together. I just want to see everybody come together and I’m just happy everybody was able to make it out here today.”

Organizers say Saturday’s turnout was their biggest yet, proving that wheels truly can heal. “What has happened here is unconscionable and we just need to come out here and show that we care,” Mixter said.

Organizers tell 47ABC they expect to raise more than they anticipated  and its all thanks to the support of the community.
