Weather Tidbits: Continental Tropical Air Mass

It’s gets very hot in this Weather Tidbits with the continental tropical air mass. The continental tropical airmass or cT is a hot, dry, stable aloft but unstable surface air mass. The air mass is associated with summer only. Drought may occur when the air mass become stagnant. The air mass hovers over the Southwest; where the unstable surface air produces dust devils, while commonly producing temperatures over 100°F.  The air mass originates over Mexico and the Southwest but can move as far east as the Plains and the Mississippi Valley before the moisture of the Gulf of Mexico becomes an influencing factor.
