Volunteers needed for 35th annual Coastal Cleanup

DELAWARE – Calling all Delawareans! The Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control is in search of volunteers for its 35th annual Coastal Cleanup.

The one day initiative encourages volunteers to visit one of 41 sites across the first state, which includes wildlife areas and beaches to help clean the areas of trash and litter.

Last year, nearly 600 people cleaned up over 5,000 pounds of trash.

Organizers tell 47ABC, the goal is to preserve and keep Delaware clean and beautiful which can’t be done without your helping hands. “Our volunteers are the people who make this cleanup happen because they’re the ones out their picking up the trash,” Coastal Cleanup Coordinator Joanna Wilson said.

“It keeps trash out of our waterways and away from our wildlife. All of that is very important.”

The cleanup is set for Saturday, September 17th from 9a.m.-noon.
