Suspect arrested on first degree murder charges in connection to Easton shooting incident

EASTON, Md. – Easton Police have charged a man with first degree murder following a shooting earlier this month.

During the evening hours of July 3rd, officers responded to the 100 block of Prospect Avenue for a report of a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers immediately began lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The victim, identified as 42-year-old George Barney, was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Regional Center at Easton but died from his injuries a short time later.

Investigation revealed that an altercation broke out between George and 21-year-old Jalyn Barney in the front yard of the Prospect Avenue residence. People reportedly separated the two, and after Jalyn got into a vehicle, he fired one shot, hitting George. Jalyn then fled the scene.

On Friday, Easton Police Detectives were assisted by the U.S. Marshals Capital Regional Fugitive Task Force in apprehending Jalyn Barney in Baltimore City. He was charged with first and second degree murder, first degree assault, and use of a firearm in a violent crime.
