Second suspect charged in July 3rd murder in Easton
EASTON, Md. – A second suspect has been charged in connection to the murder of a Hurlock man earlier this month.
During the evening hours of July 3rd, officers responded to the 100 block of Prospect Avenue for a report of a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers immediately began lifesaving efforts until paramedics arrived. The victim, identified as 42-year-old George Barney, was taken to the University of Maryland Shore Regional Center at Easton but died from his injuries a short time later.
Investigation revealed that an altercation broke out between George and 21-year-old Jalyn Barney in the front yard of the Prospect Avenue residence. People reportedly separated the two, and after Jalyn got into a vehicle, he fired one shot, hitting George. Jalyn then fled the scene in a vehicle being driven by 41-year-old Charlene Morton of St. Michaels, MD.
Jalyn Barney was arrested late last week and charged with first and second degree murder, first degree assault, and use of a firearm in a violent crime. On Monday, Easton Police detectives located and charged Morton with first degree murder, conspiracy to second degree murder, and two counts of accessory after the fact of first and second degree murder.
