Delaware State Police investigating fatal crash in Milton

MILTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened in Milton Saturday morning.

Police say around 7:04 a.m., a 2014 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound on Milton Ellendale Highway, approaching the intersection with Mulberry Street. At the same time, a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado was traveling westbound on Milton Ellendale Highway, approaching the same intersection.

The Chevrolet began turning left onto Mulberry Street, into the path of the Toyota, according to police. The front left of the Chevrolet hit the left side of the Toyota in the intersection. Police say both vehicles then spun, with the Toyota stopping in a grassy area off of the roadway. The Chevrolet ended up in the eastbound lane of Milton Ellendale Highway.

Police say a 24-year-old man from Lewes was driving the Chevrolet, and was not hurt. However, the 20-year-old woman from Woodbridge, Virginia, who was driving the Toyota, was taken to the hospital. She was later pronounced dead. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

A 28-year-old man from Hyattsville, Maryland was a passenger in the Toyota, and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A 19-year-old woman from Woodbridge, Va. was also in the vehicle, and was airlifted to a local hospital in serious but stable condition, according to police. Another passenger in the Toyota, a 20-year-old man from Woodbridge, Va. was not hurt.

The roadway was closed for about 3.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Sergeant J. Burns at (302) 703-3269.
