Criminal investigation underway after body found in Rehoboth Beach
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A criminal investigation is underway in Rehoboth Beach after a body was found near the East Atlantic Apartments complex.
Around 11:32 a.m. on July 17th, Delaware State Police (DSP) troopers were dispatched to a wooded area near the apartments for a death investigation. When troopers arrived, they saw the body of a male victim in the wooded area, where homeless individuals are known to frequent.
Irene Wolfe, who has lived in the apartment complex for nearly 16 years, says she’s never watched a scene like this unfold near her home before. Wolfe tells 47 ABC she was laying in bed the night before the body was discovered, when she heard screaming nearby. “When I got up this morning, I went to the fence and they had a bunch of people standing there. We heard a woman screaming ‘Oh my god, who did this to you? Who did this to you?’ I said ‘What’s wrong?’ She said ‘Dial 911!'” said Wolfe.
The body was turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy. Police say there is no threat to public safety at this time. Identification is pending notification of next of kin. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
