Big Fish Classic Competition in Ocean City sees Michael Jordan compete for biggest catch
OCEAN CITY, Md – The Big Fish Classic Fishing Tournament drew in large crowds big stars, and some big catches Sunday while benefiting a great cause.
7 boats hit the water with the goal of catching the biggest fish possible. That included NBA Star Michael Jordan who was able to hang up the very first catch of the day, that he donated to a local shelter in Ocean City. Event Organizers and staff from the shelter are thrilled that the event saw such a large turnout, and for the donation from the NBA legend.
“He caught the first swordfish of the tournament was first place for most of the day yesterday but got bumped into second place but was great is he donated that fish to Diakonia here in Ocean City,” said Events Director Brian Roberts.
Diakonia’s director says he’s thrilled to have a member like Brian Roberts on board their staff to help facilitate partnerships between their charity, which focus on helping homeless veterans get back on their feet and the Big Fish Classic. He says he greatly appreciates the exposure that Jordan brought to the event and his donation.
“He is pretty amazing and for him to donate to our shelter and to our food pantry is incredible 120 pounds of fish is going to feed a lot of people,” said Director Ken Argot.
