Vehicles For Change expanding to the Eastern Shore
SALISBURY, Md. – A new resource is coming to the Eastern Shore called Vehicles For Change.
The nonprofit is based in Maryland but is set to soon open a location in Salisbury. Vehicles For Change help low-income families get a car that will help them support their families and get back and forth from work. This is a full community effort as the community will donate the cars to the nonprofit.
“We sell them a car for $950, we provide them with a 12-month loan through Sandy Spring Bank and a 6-month 6,000-mile warranty,” says President and CEO, Martin Schwartz.
This resource also provides jobs for individuals with barriers to employment. President and CEO of Vehicles For Change breaks down how that training program works.
“So it is a paid internship they get ASE certifications while they’re there, they spend time in the classroom to prepare for ASE tests and on average our individuals pass at least 3 of the 10 ASE exams, many of them pass 6 or more, and then we will place them in a variety of job opportunities that are there on the shore,” says President and CEO, Martin Schwartz.
Schwartz says auto mechanic positions are in high demand. The grand opening for Vehicles For Change in Salisbury is happening soon. However, their first cohort will start September first.
