Coast Guard searching Chesapeake Bay after abandoned boat found beached

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard is leading a search for a possible person in the water in the Chesapeake Bay.

The search began after the Coast Guard Sector Virginia command center received a report of 20-foot Boston Whaler beached near Factory Point, Va. The Coast Guard says there were signs of recent occupancy in the boat.

Crews are currently searching for 63-year-old Christopher Martin Young, a white male weighing about 200 pounds. The search area stretches from Annapolis, Md. to Hampton, Va. Crews are using an HC-130J Hercules aircraft, a helicopter, and multiple boats.

Poquoson Fire, Hampton Fire, and Virginia Marine Resources Commission are aiding in the search. Anyone with information about Young’s disappearance is asked to contact the Coast Guard at (757) 398-6390.
